Its design and function have remained unchanged since it was introduced in 1983, and the classic thong sandal stands out for its timeless style. Thanks to the buckle, the strap can be individually adjusted to the wearer’s feet. The anatomically shaped thong provides additional support for the toes and guides them back to their natural position.

The Birkenstock Original Footbed

A Legendary Design
The core of all models is the original Birkenstock footbed. The construction helps your feet feel as comfortable as possible for hours on end.

Interior & Exterior Arch Support
The arch supports that run alongside the sides of the footbed surround the tarsal bones inside and out. This gives the foot the stability it needs when it takes a step.

Deep Heel Cup
The very deep molding in the heel area supports the foot tissue and holds the heel bone firmly in its natural position. This provides the foot with nearly as much support when it is in a sandal as when it is in a closed shoe.

Upper material: Birko-Flor®

• Birko-Flor® is a skin-friendly, tear-resistant and easy-to-care-for synthetic material which is exclusively used by BIRKENSTOCK.

Insole: Natural leather

• Natural leather can be recognized by its untreated surface. BIRKENSTOCK purposely does not treat surface grains and other characteristic features. BIRKENSTOCK uses sturdy leather with a thickness of 2.8 to 3.2 millimeters as upper material.

Footbed material: Cork

• Cork is a sustainable material extracted from the bark layer of the cork oak. This natural product is insulating and offers very good cushioning.

Outsole: EVA

• EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) is a high-quality, very light, elastic material with extremely good cushioning. As a result, it smooths out slight irregularities in the floor and ensures that every step is softly cushioned.
